Final Class

I think that I learned a lot about how important all grades are to a total student. We looked at data and how it is driven by a school to make changes. I never spent a lot of time thinking about how what I do as a fifth grade teacher can effect the big WKCE tests at 4th, 8th and 10th grades. I started thinking about the scope and sequence of our curriculum and how it builds over each year a student is in school. We as teachers are important at all grade levels, we are one more step in the building of a complete student. If they do not learn there multiplication facts in third grade they can't do double digit multiplication in fourth grade and triple digit in fifth grade and completing algebraic expressions involving multiplication by sixth grade. It is like climbing a ladder and you start missing rungs and can't fill in the gap fast enough to reach the top. We all have to work together to help each student reach the top of that ladder to graduation.
