Blogging 101

I feel like I looked through the eyes of many teachers this last week. Looking at many blogs created by educators made me excited about the prospects of finding uses for blogging either as a professional or in my classroom. Some of the uses I already knew but others were new to me. I will have to spend some time talking to my principal about his thoughts on how our district feels about students using blogging. For now I would love to see how my team feels about blogging. There is not enough time in the day some weeks to even see each others faces. This would be a way for us to communicate even when we don't have the same planning times to sit down and talk. It could be a way for us to share ideas or websites or resources we find and use or even just communicate the petty things like times of assemblies and such. It would not be a place to discuss individual students or to be shared with parents, but what we do or want to do as teachers. As team leader this would be great for me to share all the little stuff that comes to me but I don't have time to communicate with them on a daily basis. I am looking forward to learning more ways I can use technology to improve my classroom.

Interesting way to communicate between team members. As we work through different items you may find that you like Wiki's or Nings even more for collaboration. Are there teacher blogs you will return to to read more?

I agree with you Su. Since researching more on the issue of blogs and its effectiveness within a classroom environment, I too see somewhat of a value in blogging. But, I do not sure if I am ready to take my students or my district there yet. I really liked your idea of collaboration with your co-workers.

You a demonstrating great teacher leadership skills, in the willingness to work with your colleagues on the this new concept of using blogs in your classrooms. In educating your colleagues about blogs are you thinking/planning on looking into the possibilities of getting more computers for your school?

Su you have some wonderful ideas on how blogging could be used among colleagues. As a kindergarten teacher, I believe my students are way to young to use a blog but blogging between team members is a nice idea. Like you said there are some days that you do not always get a chance to talk about ideas or issues with your teammates but if we used a blog, when an idea comes up we could just post and comment on it that way until we had time to talk face to face.

Also I think the idea you gave about setting up a blog about the new reading series would be a great addition to our district. I have heard many teacher's comments about the new reading series and some of the struggles that are occurring and if there was a blog that people could post for help or how they got through certain lessons successfully, that would be an excellent source of help and communication resource between different schools in our district.
